Our Goal

This day will give you an excellent overview of the main grape varieties and benchmark styles from around the world. We teach you how to taste wine professionally and give you the tools to fully understand the structure and nuances of any wines that you taste.

Wines are tasted “blind” or unseen so that you learn to judge the quality of a wine on merit, without any preconceptions. The day will impart the knowledge necessary for you to break free from your wine rut and will introduce you to new and exciting styles. Grapes, production zones, famous regions, production methods, ageing potential, food matching, storage, wine faults and other important issues will be covered.

Our tutors will pass on insider tips to help you navigate the pitfalls of buying wine in shops or restaurants giving you more confidence when entertaining clients or friends.

Course Content
We cover all the main grape varieties and styles from the Old and the New World and follow the trusted systematic approach to wine tasting. All wines are tasted "blind", so that you make your judgement based on the taste of the wine in the glass and not on what it says on the label.

We teach you how to evaluate and assess quality. Ageing potential; wine and food matching; wine production; storage conditions; wine faults and many other burning wine issues are also covered.

Wines are selected to demonstrate certain characteristics and explain the principals of wine tasting.

A wonderful day, many thanks. May I congratulate the gentleman presenting the course, his encyclopaedic knowledge was complemented by his superb presentation skills and he not only ensured we all went away with a greater understanding of the subject, but that we had a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Just wanted to thank you for the excellent One Day Course I enjoyed today. Katherine was an absolute delight and was as extremely knowledgeable as you would expect from a Master of Wine. She was both interesting and informative, answered all questions and gave every participant her attention.

On top of that our lunch was also 'top class'.

Just wanted to let you know how much Daniel and I enjoyed the Old World Workshop on Saturday 5 July. Nick was a superb host and his enthusiasm and knowledge of the subject was greatly appreciated.

Shall certainly be recommending this particular workshop and know that Daniel is very keen to pursue one of the lengthier courses you offer! Kate

Dear  LWA team

Thank you, Lynne & I had a great day on Saturday at the Peasant.

It was a well structured day and Clive Barlow was excellent as an entertaining and educating speaker. The lunch was delicious - I had the lamb, my wife the venison. We particularly appreciated the service, attentively topping up the water jug, vital lubrication throughout the day.

I re-read the description of the course when we got home. Your description is completely accurate - and it was fun - we had a good crowd. Robin and Lynne Worthington
